The poem
What you take into yourself, you can transform. Deep in your heart, (all tenderness, all muscle) a patient alchemy can be called upon to coat with nacre some unwelcome grit. It's slow, this curing, but understand that this is how old injury can be remade into a round and luminous certainty, a calcified resolve.
